THE GIVING TREE: Share the spirit of the holidays with us.
There are many ways to give to those in need at your UCCU branch
This holiday season, Utah Community Credit Union is proud to sponsor The Giving Tree, by United Way of Utah County. Beginning November 23rd, every UCCU branch will feature its own Giving Tree, a special Christmas tree with the names of local families and individuals who are in need of gifts during this holiday season.
The Giving Tree is open to everyone and includes specific requests, making it easy to find the right gift for anyone you choose. Simply visit any UCCU branch, select a family or individual from the tree, purchase and wrap gifts, then drop them off at that branch. UCCU will deliver the gifts to each recipient before Christmas Eve. “UCCU has been a proud sponsor of The Giving Tree for many years,” said Jeff Sermon, UCCU President. “It’s the perfect opportunity to give to those in need in our community and we’re grateful to everyone who participates.”
Along with The Giving Tree, UCCU is joining with Community Action Food Bank in support their annual food drive. Once again… stop by any UCCU branch, where (along with The Giving Tree), you’ll find the Community Action Food Bank collection barrel. Simply drop any non-perishable food item into the barrel or speak to a UCCU teller to make a monetary donation of any size.
100% of everything donated will go toward the Community Action Food Bank. “Both of these organizations make it very easy for just about anyone to participate,” said Sermon. “And UCCU is thankful for our opportunity to play a small part in the great work that they do.”

Are you tired of those long, never ending lines during the holiday season? Are you tired of the yearly Black Friday 2:00 a.m. alarm awakenings? Here is the solution: online shopping. Online shopping has become one of the best and most convenient ways to shop. Here are three reasons why you should make online shopping a priority this season.
One of the first goals people make on their new year’s resolution list is to “get out of debt” from their holiday expenses. Online shopping can prevent debt in many different ways. In-store businesses are forced to spend extra money on costs such as rent, bills, decorations, display units, and employee payments. These additional costs force in-store businesses to increase their prices on their products. Online businesses do not have to worry about these costs, making their products much cheaper. So please, go ahead, buy those cheaper items in your pajamas, it will save you time and money.
“Hey, do you want to spend your Saturday afternoon standing in lines and running around every city in the state trying to find one gift?” of course you don’t. Let’s face it, your time would be better spent at home. Why waste time putting on an outfit, driving to the store and searching for one present when you can just purchase the gift from your couch. Online shopping is also convenient for those with a hectic work schedule. Even if you work late hours, online shopping is open 27/7.
In-store buying limits the variety of items you can purchase, especially this time of the year. Shopping online opens a limitless amount of options ranging from sizes and colors. Brand loyalty is also an important factor for shoppers. If you are obsessed with a specific brand, pick and choose from any store online, and not just one. Shopping online also makes it easier to compare prices by opening hundreds of browsers at a time to find the best price.
So avoid those crowds and avoid those long lines and start buying from home. Shopping online is cheaper, easier and more convenient than ever.
On Nov. 2, 2015 President Obama signed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 which drastically modified some of the options available within Social Security.
Two popular Social Security claiming strategies were severely limited. If ever there were a sense of urgency in ensuring that you get the most you are eligible for under Social Security that time is now. There is a small grace period to lock in those benefits that ends May 1, 2016.
Our Social Security Timing® software identifies the best and earliest strategies in easy-to-understand charts, and allows you to add alternates for comparison.

60 Years of Inspiring Smart Decisions
At UCCU, we embrace every new year with great excitement, because we know that a new year brings new opportunities to strengthen our community and help our members make smart financial decisions. But this next year is going to be something very special.
2016 marks the 60th anniversary of Utah Community Credit Union. Think of that. 60 years, right here in Utah Valley. Of course, things were very different six decades ago. With only seven original members—all of them BYU employees—and $35 in assets, UCCU began as BYU Employee’s Federal Credit Union, a financial institution owned by its members, founded on the simple ideal of “People Helping People.”
We’ve sure come a long way in the past six decades. In fact, 2016 marks another enormous milestone in UCCU’s history: the year that our financial institution exceeds $1 billion dollars in assets. And the secret to our success is no secret at all. Our growth and longevity have been built on that same, simple philosophy: “People Helping People.” For sixty years, this philosophy has been our guiding light and it’s helped us build a credit union that is truly safe, secure, and stronger than ever. And in 2016, we plan to celebrate ‘60 years of inspiring smart decisions.’
While we don’t want to give away all of our upcoming surprises, we can tell you that 2016 will bring opportunities to win a UCCU Smart Car, receive special member appreciation gifts, vote for charities to receive donations, and a whole lot more. Visit uccu.com/60Years for more information. As we celebrate 60 years, we’re firmly focused on building for our future. Construction on UCCU’s new financial center in Thanksgiving Point continues on schedule and will include a full-service branch office with drive-up windows, a drive-up ATM, and six floors of additional office space that will provide immediate return on investment as well as future opportunities for expansion and sustainable growth.
Like I said… 2016 is going to be very special at Utah Community Credit Union. So look forward to lots of exciting news and announcements. And as always, thank you for choosing UCCU as your financial partner.
